*KLERE YO - The compas direct kickoff signaled by Dener Ceide's message. A pretty much straight up compas uptempo workout. They seemed to have also done a touchup on the ENGLISH part that was part of the chorus when Gazzman had us in the studio BEFORE the CD came out....and it's for the best. I love the brass/horn and guitar work on this track. I imagine this will be the main uptempo track for the group's LIVE shows off the new CD and rightfully so because it rocks in my opinion. "Ou paka bare m vre...Se van m ye"...Let's wait and see how that unfolds; in the meantime, this is a great uptempo bal track.

*HEARTBREAK & MISERY - I "warned" many music observers about this out of nowhere musical route that COULEUR was going to take on this song...months before it came out. While I liked it because it changed things up; I was a bit afraid as to how his hardcore fans were going to take it; so far based on some of what we have read; they seem pleasantly surprise. It is a great career move by Gazzman as he has nothing to prove in the style of compas that we are accustomed to hearing him sing; so now he is challenging HIMSELF and also bringing his fans along for the ride; while trying to grab parts of the market that he probably does not have in his fanbase. Great production.

*SAN MANTI: This song seems to be an early favorite from the fans based on reaction after it was one of the first two songs released as the preview singles. The musical palette and the subject (Our beloved Haiti and its problems), I suspect is one major reason for the fans relating to it as quickly as they have. WHY ARE THE YOUNG HAITIANS LEAVING HAITI TO GO TO OTHER COUNTRIES? A great guest appearance by Dener Ceide on this track.....I love everything about this song. "Gin yon packet neg nwa...JE YO VET" ($$$$ What an IMPACT line that is)...eske se afe KOB ke anpil moun ki nan gwo position ap regle...is what seems to be the question being asked here....MIZIK SA TOUCHE ANPIL DOSSIER SANSIB......and like Dener says at the end of the song...."BIEN DEVELOPE"....and you know what; I can't disagree with him in terms of the song being BIEN DEVELOPE....SAN MANTI! Lol.

*FOT PAPAM: Deep track lyrically like we told you months ago. A gentleman as he is about to get married, only to find out at the last minute that IT'S HIS SISTER. Apparently it's a common problem in Haiti according to Gazzman.... Dads having a kid and leaving them undocumented; which in turn makes Gazzman's character in the song, putting the blame on his Dad. I must say that I have not heard a subject like that treated...maybe it has; it's just that I haven't heard it personally. Nice mellow track well developed with a deep story to boot. The message in there...FIND OUT ALL THE WAY who your significant other is before taking the plunge. What would YOU do? Hammy.

*PA POZEM KESYON: Compas Direct tune to keep the hardcore Gazzman compas direct fans in check. That line of course made famous by Gazzman's good friend TI HARRY BRASSEUR. That "I DON'T CARE....I DON'T GIVE A DANM" part is very catchy and this is a track that will keep the Dzine/Nu Look/Disip fans happy. GADE W GUITA MON DIEUUUUUUU..."Fo TORO". ANMWEYYYYYYY. Se nan mizik sa li tuo jere 2/3 zanmi internet li yo ak shoutout...to make sure that he's "covered" in that department. Nice choice.

*IT DOESN'T MATTER with JESSIE BELVAL: ZOUK NIGHT heaven from the very beginning of the track. ZOUKE GAZZY....ZOUKE GAZZY. Unconditional love test as the vocalist asks if SHE will still be around when he stops singing, or is no longer famous. DOUS KOU SIWOMIEL!!!!!!!!!! Dance plogue....AYAYAYYYYY!
"Le micro a deplogue....kiyes kap chache kote m ye".....HMMMM! One of my favorites on the CD. Excellent performance by Jessie Belval on this track.

*CETTE FOIS-CI: Nice beautiful song...I love the BACKGROUND VOCALS on this one a lot. Will this song stand out or get lost in the shuffle? A Suivre. Very easy chorus to sing along to.

*DEFI: Compas direct flavor in the mold of "Klere Yo" and "Pa Pozem Kesyon". Good workout track mostly led by the KEYBOARD. Kiyes Gazzman ap bay DEFI la nan mizik sa? "MIN KWA MANMANM W...MIN KWA PAPA W...Vin Pile l". LOL.
That "Ou ka fe sa ou minm"? part well known to LIVE fans of the band. I don't see this song doing much except provide some entertainment for the group's LIVE shows. Is probably the weakest of their uptempo songs on this CD.

*LANMOU PI FO: Another solid song....even though it sounds eerily similar to a song that I have heard before in terms of some of the chorus at the beginning of the song....and it was NOT from Gazzman that I heard it. Having said that, enjoyable song. Kick ass soulful vocals from Gazzman on this track....possibly his best VOCAL PERFORMANCE on the CD....Ou santi doule atis la. Another solid track on the CD.

*J'AI BRULE LES ETAPES (Etap): Originally called "Ke m pa janm kontan pou lontan", Gazzman changed the song title at the last minute. It is easily my favorite song on the CD because of the LYRICS and the MUSIC; and based on early reaction from the fans...I am NOT the only one. GAZZMAN FE GOL NAN MIZIK SA....LI TOUCHE SANTIMAN ANPIL MOUN ak mizik sa; and it also unfortunately in terms of the timing...is on point, with the artist having lost his Mom recently. This is the closest song that Gazzman has had on CD that falls close to the hit song "OU SE" that he sang with Richie. The song about COURAGE...no matter what obstacles are thrown your way. REWIND BUTTON....Mwen sorry pou ou ak chante sa. It would be a CAPITAL MISTAKE OF MAJOR PROPORTIONS if Gazzman ignores this song and does nothing with it; or if he waits TOO LATE to try and promote this one.

He and his DISIP team dropped it all the way to number 10 in terms of the song order on the CD.....HMMM...SE SA....MAP GAD FEINT OU. I did not like the laugh that he did in the song because it was NOT appropriate for the lyrics of this song.....even though it can be interpreted as SA OU VLE POUM FE...SE RI POUM RI in these tough times. The song is also extremely personal in terms of his family where he talks about his Dad, Mom, sister, and brother. GAZZMAN DID NOT WANT TO PUT THIS SONG ON THE CD....You guys can THANK ME and producer/keyboardist Valery Lezin for making sure that it made the CD......ANBA REDI! To actually be on the plane with your band....only to see your brother getting deported to Haiti...on the same plane.......HEARTBREAKING.. How can you be a human being and not be touched by a story like that? WOW....MIZIK SA....SE DWET SOU BOUCH!

*APARANS: Nice message about NOT judging people by their appearance (Their look and what they wear). Message nicely developed with a good song to accompany it. "CD SONG" is what I call it...it will do its work ON THE CD.....as I don't think the group will even push it much Live. I might be wrong....but maybe they have a reason why it's the last NEW SONG on the CD just before Limena.

*LIMENA: Being that it came out way before the CD, it is not a new song.
__________________________________

*THE GOOD: I can't say that I can find 1 bad song on the CD. Yes there are songs that are better and have more potential than others; but trying to look for a bad song KI PA KANPE SOU ANYIN on the CD.....I can't find any. VERY SOLID CD.

PLACEMENT OF THE UPTEMPO SONGS: Gazzman sees the trend being that slow/mid-tempo songs are the flavor of the HMI right now compared to uptempo songs; so what he did is he served you MORE of those tracks; while at the same time, he made sure he included HIS BREAD AND BUTTER "UPTEMPO" songs in there...well placed at #1, 5, and 8.

NEW TERRITORY: With songs like "San Manti", "Heartbreak and Misery", COULEUR went in a different direction, which can only help to open doors for other ears to listen to his CD. The regular DISIP GAZZMAN fan has plenty of material to play with on the CD; so the ones that are "DIFFERENT" will NOT bother the CD.

BEST DISIP CD?: I am tempted to say that without a doubt THIS IS THE BEST CD THAT DISIP HAS EVER RELEASED. I'm going to give it a few weeks to see if I still feel the same like today; but no doubt about it....GAZZMAN DISIP did "work" in the studio.

*FAVORITE SONGS: "Etap", "San Manti", "It Doesn't Matter", "Heartbreak & Misery", and "Klere Yo". These are the same ones that I think have potential to do very well for Gazzman Disip in terms of HIT SONGS. We just have to wait and see how the songs are pushed.

Kudos to Dener Ceide and Valery Lezin (Who worked day in and day out with Gazzman on the CD in his studio....He pushed the artist to deliver what he came out with.

*THE BAD: Hardcore Compas Direct Gazzman Couleur DISIP fans will think that 3 UPTEMPO "Voye Monte" songs might NOT be enough for them to get their groove on on the CD. Hopefully they get into the other songs because Gazzman is just following the HMI trend that dictates that Mid-tempo and slow songs are the ones doing more damage with the fans right now. SAN MANTI...se sa l ye wi.
__________________________________________________________

*FINAL WORD: Great work from GAZZMAN DISIP on this CD. I can't stop listening to it...certain songs have me pressing that REWIND button over and over.. It's now all about PROMOTION; so we'll see how the management team and Gazzman go about it.....but SI SE POU CD PRODUCTION.....BRAVO.......BEL GRENN CD!

Pat,

Gen anpil lòt gwo tanlan deyò a apre Richie avèk Arly. Albòm sa-a se yon prèv atis la te gen yon dènye kou anba men l. Anpil egri pral megri ! Pèsonèlman, apre m fin pran san m, chita byen tande CD a, mwen sezi e m sote. Mwen konnen albòm lan te gen anpil chans pou l bon; men m pa't panse li t'ap bon kon sa. Disip gen yon bèl grenn albòm nan men l. Pou m pa di, Gazzman gen bagay nan men l pou l fè bagay.

Si gen moun ki te panse se dènye kout kat Gazzman sa; enbyen kou a reyalize.

Konpliman Gazzman/Disip !

Awesome review Pat. I totally agreed with you regarding the best CD Disip has put out so far. Now it's up to the crew to push this album to make it where it should be. Music wise, there are up there neck to neck with the other albums that just came out. We all know how things work in the HMI these days. Promotion Promotion Promotion, without that they won't go anywhere. Great Job Pat.

I've heard great things about the album.

Now this review has peaked my curiosity even further to go and listen to it.

I think I'm ready for a KLASS break.

like so many already said, I hope Gazz la pa kite album nan gazpiye. This is do or die for the DISIP crew.

If he doesn't strike gold with this one, I'm afraid anything else he releases will be too late.

The Disip crew did a nice job of balancing the song selections to engage the casual fan without alienating the hard cores---well enough that I've been able to digest the less stellar/shout out type songs after exhausting the good ones.

Lyrically, there were some Hits, such as:

Sou recho la mize, m we manmanm kap kwit pwoblem. Met nan asyet lespwa, poul pa dekouraje avem.

and some Misses: The unbearable cliches in Pa Pozem Kesyon:

I was disappointed most in It Doesn't Matter. The song is weak lyrically. It's a continuation of Gazzman's previous songs about being a "superstar". blah! This was a missed opportunity for the artist to really show off his vocal chops in a nice duet with a good singer.

My other critiques for future albums are to place the songs in a better order. Fot Papam should not have been the 4th song with Lanmou Pi fo and Etap so far down.

Also, if you must use slogans, come up with better ones and place them more strategically in the songs. I don't need to hear "Nou se Disip" on every song. We know! :P

Overall, I'm (FINALLY) satisfied with a Disip album! Third time's the charm for El Color.

That's a "FAIR" review... Disip camp should be estatic after reading this...

In all honnesty.. The biggest change on this album is the "TONE" of the singer.. Which a lot of people swept under the rug!

From "Mission" to "Viktwa", the singer was a jokester, a wanna be comedian.. Wasting most of his album lyrics taking unnecessary shots at others, never take in account that "content" matters.. I believe that until recently the singer believed in that saying of "GAZMAN IS SO HOT THAT ANYTHING HE PUT OUT ON THE MARKET WILL WORK" ..
It took the singer 2 albums and 6 years to realize that those same people who pronounced those words and encouraged his outrageous and disrespectful behavior were just caught in the moment!

The tone of the singer on this album tells you that "HE HAS BEEN HUMILIATED" and that "IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT HARD TIMES" for the singer!
Ladies and gentleman.. HUMILITY WORKS.. TRY IT!

Throughout the album.. The singer kept on repeating just to paraphrase, that he has been to the lowest point.. He doesn't think that he can go any lower than where he is now"!!! In a sense "THINGS CAN'T GET ANY WORSE"

He wastes very little time taking disrespectful shots at others.. No "sant lanbi ou pran an se mwen kap boukannen'l " (not that there is any lanbi too boukannen after all), no "m'ap fè yo fè yo so périyé" type of shots.. Instead.. The singer's defense mechanism kicks in on this album in "ou pa ka baré van"..
If Gazman had shown this "Humility" in "VIKTWA" things COULD have been much different for him today.. Instead.. He wrote songs to disrespect others (leader) that today he complains are not helping him..

The other thing on this album is the amount of "PLENYEN SONGS", CHANSONETTES FRANCAISES, RANCHERA (Y'all didn't think I was gonna let that go"
SINCE KING ARLY STARTED THIS TREND OF RELEASING A HARD KONPA SONG AND A "PLENYEN" .. The entire industry now has follow in his footsteps.. Now it's a must that you have a plenyen hit song on your LP.. The same group/people who used to criticize the plenyen movement are the same people nowadays using it to have success! ARLY PLENYEN POU FANM TWÒP!!!! Jodi a si'w pa plenyen.. Album ou pap maché!

I personally think that the expectations were so low for Disip that they managed to surpass previous efforts.. By changing the tone! It is however a little too late for disip.. IN MY HONNEST OPINION.. DISIP ALBUM IS BETTER THAN KLASS ALBUM. Klass album might have more success.. Because of promotion and polularity! (I KNOW THAT I JUST PISSED SOME IDIOTS)  pun intended! But yeah.. The effort to change the schematic is worth noting.. While klass just re-heat the same material and expect it to be consumed by doing heavy promotion!

Let's be real.. While this is disip best effort.. This album will suffer and will di nothing for disip! There is not a song on the album that can take the lead! It's ok.. Not great.. And disip needed something GREATER to resurface! This ain't gonna happen.. Especially releasing after Klass and right before NU LOOK! SUICIDE!

My opinion off course..
